Land of Marigold lancement de disque: 17 septembre au Centre Humaniste

Land of Marigold has a new recording! cresosote was recorded in the Montréal winter of 2013 and has been released on Toronto's Barnyard Records. Much has happened in the world and in their music since they recorded their first record (on Calgary's Bug Incision label) about 7 years ago.

mardi, le 26 mai:  Kathryn Ladano, clarinette basse. Kathryn fait une tournée canadienne. Elle joue solo et en trio avec Nicolas Caloia (contrebasse), et Ellwood Epps (trompette). Partie de la série 'Mardis tous croches', @ La Passe, 1214 de la Montagne. 21h00, $8 suggeré.

Kathryn Ladano est l'un des jouers de clarinette basse première au Canada. Elle est spécialiste de la musique contemporaine et de l'improvisation libre et a joué comme soliste et dans la musique de chambre à travers le Canada et d'ailleurs. Elle a joué avec des musiciens et improvisateurs de renommée internationale tels que Douglas Ewart, Richard Robeson, Ed Sarath, Billy Satterwhite, Michael Jefry Stevens, et Dong-Won Kim.

Elle est le directeur artistique de concerts NUMUS, le co-directeur de l'ICE (Improvisation Concerts Ensemble) à l'Université Wilfrid Laurier, et instructeur de la clarinette basse à l'Université de Waterloo. Kathryn effectue comme soliste et dans un certain nombre d'ensembles qui se spécialisent dans la nouvelle musique et improvisation libre tels que In Orbit, Edges, et Stealth; son duo avec le célèbre percussionniste Richard Burrows; le duo a sorti son premier CD à l'automne 2014.

La tournée est soutenue par le Conseil des Arts du Canada et par Circuit.

Kathryn Ladano is one of Canada’s premiere bass clarinetists. She is a specialist of contemporary music and free improvisation and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician across Canada and abroad. She has performed with internationally known musicians and improvisers such as Douglas Ewart, Richard Robeson, Ed Sarath, Billy Satterwhite, Michael Jefry Stevens, and Dong-Won Kim.

She is currently the Artistic Director of NUMUS concerts, the co- Director of ICE (Improvisation Concerts Ensemble) at Wilfrid Laurier University, and the bass clarinet instructor at the University of Waterloo. Kathryn performs as a soloist and in a number of ensembles that specialize in new music and free improvisation such as In Orbit, Edges, and Stealth; her duo with famed TorQ percussionist, Richard Burrows; the duo released its debut CD in the fall of 2014.

Kathryn's tour is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts and Circuit.

Tim Crofts, pianist de Halifax, fait une tournée canadienne. Içi à Montréal il jou en solo ainsi qu'avec un dynamic duo des cuivres: Scott Thomson au trombone et Ellwood Epps à la trompette.

Ce concert et le premier d'un serie mensuel presenté à La Passe parl'Envers. On est très content de vous presenter de la musique créative dans un environment chaleureux et inspirant.

Tim Crofts is a true 21st Century pianist. Tim’s main focus is improvisation & new music. His musical style combines elements of 20th century classical music with free jazz improvisation and world music aesthetics. In performance, Tim explores the full sonic capabilities of the acoustic piano through extended techniques and a wide range of piano preparations. He is able to coax a variety of colour and extreme dynamic contrast through employing traditional and non-traditional techniques in tandem. Crofts also performs in electronic settings utilizing a variety of samplers, synthesizers and keyboards to create an even more extended palette of sounds and textures. All these stylistic elements are blended through free improvisation, and the pursuit of the sound of the moment.

In Halifax, Tim is active in both the performance and teaching of improvised music. He has been presented regularly by suddenlyLISTEN in concerts and on tour, with the Crofts/Adams/Pearse Trio. He has performed regularly with the Upstream Music Association and the Upstream Orchestra, including a 2013 performance at the 29th Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville, in Quebec. Tim has also performed with Symphony Nova Scotia at the CNMN Forum, and in other concert with such creative music luminaries as Jerry Granelli, Gerry Hemingway, Graham Collier, Evan Parker and Dave Douglas. In 2014 Tim released two recordings: his solo CD 8 Ball and Doorknob, and Literal Lateral with the Crofts/Adams/Pearse Trio and percussionist Gerry Hemingway.

Le Festival de la nouvelle musique de trompette au Canada et l'Envers présentent une soirée cinéma et musique mettant en vedette un documentaire classique datant de 1981 (avec Cecil Taylor, Archie Shepp, Paul Bley and Bill Dixon) ainsi qu’une prestation par le trompettiste Ellwood Epps.

IMAGINE THE SOUND rassemble des entretiens et des spectacles des grands innovateurs du jazz d’avant-garde (jadis controversé) des années 60. Ce premier documentaire long- métrage signé Ron Mann (Grass, Comicbook Confidential) est un hommage élégant au célèbre groupe d’artistes qui ont contribué à forger l’avant-garde dans les années 60.

Selon le critique et l’historien cinématographique Jonathan Rosenbaum IMAGINE THE SOUND est “fort probablement le meilleur documentaire sur le free-jazz.” Ce film met en vedette des entretiens ainsi que des prestations dramatiques des pianistes Cecil Taylor et Paul Bley, le saxophoniste ténor Archie Shepp et le trompettiste Bill Dixon.

Il y aura aussi une performance de Ellwood Epps trompette, Vicky Mettler guitare, Raphael Foisy-Couture basse, Louis-Vincent Hamel batterie.

Cette soirée spéciale servira à amasser des fonds pour couvrir les frais de déplacement et d’hébergement pour les artistes participant à la 2e édition du Festival de la nouvelle musique de trompette au Canada, qui aura lieu à Montréal du 12 au 15 mars 2015. Nous accueillerons 16 artistes invités incluant Ingird Jensen, Jake Henry, Nicole Rampersaud et Lorne Lofsky. The goal of this special evening is to raise travel and accommodation funds for the2nd annual Festival of New Trumpet Music Canada, to be held in Montreal from March 12 to 15, 2015. We have16 visiting artists including Ingird Jensen, Jake Henry, Nicole Rampersaud, and Lorne Lofsky. More than a dozen of the country's brightest and most creative trumpet players (46 musicians in all) will perform over 4 nights, offering the best in cutting edge jazz, contemporary composition, electronics, improvisation and more.
